Journey to Babylon with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! They were operating under the assumption that the words in 1 Samuel 2:30 were true, 'Those who honor me, I will honor.' But how many of us make judgements from our limited, human perspective about what "God honoring us" will look like? When God wanted to make David a King, He didn't first give him a crown - He gave him a Goliath. When God wanted to raise Joseph to the palace, He didn't give him a shortcut - He gave him a prison. When God wanted to make Esther a Queen, He didn't give her comfort - He gave her a crisis. When God wanted to make Moses a leader, He didn't give him a stage - He gave him a wilderness. When God wanted to show His power and faithfulness to the Babylonians, He didn't send fire down from heaven to burn up King Nebuchadnezzar's huge, golden idol - He threw is own devoted servants directly into the flames! A lot of times, when you feel like God is breaking you, He's actually building you. God's main objective is not making you happy; it's making you holy. God doesn't give you what you expect in this life; He gives you what you need to become everything He needs you to be.
